Great War Tour
The Great War Guided Tour
Learn more about men and women who gave up their lives while serving their countries during WW1, and those who lived through the war to change all wars.
A century on from the British declaration of war in Germany in August 1914, we visit some of the graves of service personnel and civilians from the Great War, at rest in Arnos Vale.
Arnos Vale's Great War memorial was built in 1921 at Soldier's Corner to mark the graves of Great War casualties who died in Bristol's hospitals. The cemetery is the last resting place of servicement from all over the world - as well as local people who lived through the war. From underage conscripts to the war at home, discover the individual stories and sacrifices of wartime and visit the War memorials and family graves across the cemetery.
Warm clothing and sensible shoes are strongly recommended. Arnos Vale Cemetery is not a fully accessible site. This tour route may include some steep slopes, steps and muddy or uneven paths. Find out more about visiting Arnos Vale safely here
