We are on the search for an active and energetic Cleaner Caretaker to join our team. The site, visitor centre and cafe have been experiencing particularly high visitor numbers throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. It has been essential to respond by improving our cleaning regimes, to keep our visitors and staff safe and the site Covid-secure. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about Arnos Vale Cemetery; a place at the heart of the community.
Arnos Vale is full of memories, culture, history, nature, wellbeing and events. On any day of the week, the site can attract a large number of visitors for a great variety of reasons. Some visit family graves and others explore the history of Victorian Bristol, or just sample the wares of the café.
People regularly use the site for leisure, commuting and exercise. We also offer a range of volunteering opportunities from landscape maintenance and supporting children’s workshops, to working on reception, guiding tours and undertaking historical research. We really value the contributions of our volunteers. As a not-for-profit organisation, all our income is put back into preserving, enhancing and developing this special place.
We all help each other out and regularly need to react to changes to ensure that the site operates efficiently and safely. As Cleaner Caretaker, you will work independently and with colleagues to clean and maintain the fantastic resources to a high standard. You will need to be an active and energetic team member who is adaptable to change and is enthusiastic about this unique site. You will need to take real pride in your work, be comfortable with regular and repetitive cleaning, and able to carry out some other practical maintenance tasks.
You will work 31.5 hours per week: 10.30am – 5pm Monday – Thursday, and 9am – 5pm on Sunday. This may vary due to operational needs.
The post holder may be required to attend the occasional incident out of hours and will be a named key holder.
This is a temporary contract for 6 months, with a potential for extension.
Salary: £18,510 Pro rata (actual £15,548 for 31.5 hours)
Alternatively, by post to Nick Bull, Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust, West Lodge, Bath Road, Bristol, BS4 3EW
Interviews to be held week commencing 8th March 2021. Due to covid restrictions interviews will take place by video call (Microsoft Teams) or telephone.
