The infamous family’s silver screen debut sees Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd) return to the Addams household after a 25 year absence. He’s been lost in the Bermuda Triangle – or so he claims. As the family welcome him back into their lives, Gomez Addams (Raúl Juliá) begins to suspect that there is more to Fester than meets the eye.
Starring: Anjelica Huston | Raúl Juliá | Christopher Lloyd | Christina Ricci
Director: Barry Sonnenfeld
Screenplay: Caroline Thompson | Larry Wilson
Producer: Scott Rudin
THEY SAY: “Is resurrecting a long dead TV show a sure sign of creative bankruptcy? Not when the results are as delightful as The Addams Family, an inventive adaptation that’s actually loads funnier than the TV version of Charles Addams’ cartoon strip […] The jokes come machine gun fast and the casting is absolutely inspired.” – Film4, 1991
BRISTOL FILM FESTIVAL SAY: Part of the enduring appeal of the Addams family is their utter lack of self-awareness – they don’t regard themselves as strange. To that end, the superb ensemble cast breathe life and warmth into the comic strip caricatures – something that their characters would doubtless find very disturbing indeed.
