LGBTQ+ people have always lived here, which means they’ve always died here too! Reacquaint yourselves with the gay dead of Bristol’s magnificent Arnos Vale Cemetery.
The lives of the queerly departed are mostly unheard and unmentioned; buried deeply beneath forgotten headstones and lost among encroaching ivy. These were lives which didn’t conform to expectations of gender and sexuality: Secretive song writers, watercolour painters, suffragists, poets and more.
As they died, so did their life stories. Join Sacha, Sheldon and a host of queer artists and performers as ambassadors for the queer dead as we explore the hidden LGBTQ people buried in Arnos Vale Cemetery for the first time on the Drop Dead Gorgeous Tour.
Meet outside the cafe, next to the Spielman Centre.
After the tour, maybe grab a drink at the cafe then join us for an indoor screening of The Wizard of Oz?
We have free parking on site, and cycle racks available. There is an accessible parking space outside each chapel. Further information can be found on our Visiting Arnos Vale page. The event is held in the Anglican Chapel which is a short walk from the toilets and bar. Please note that the top gate will be closed, and all visitors can come through the main gate on Bath Road.
Arnos Vale Cemetery is not a fully accessible site. Wearing warm clothes and sensible shoes is strongly recommended.
We hope you have a really special evening. As a charity we still face an annual shortfall in our finances and we rely on these events to keep us open for our community. There are a number of ways that you can contribute resources to the life and work of Arnos Vale. You might like to give your time as a volunteer or consider giving us a regular donation
Tickets: We regret that we cannot exchange, refund or transfer tickets unless the event in question has been cancelled or rescheduled by Arnos Vale. If this is the case we will let you know by email. Chairs are provided.
