Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) will mark the completion of the restoration of the the marker stones and screen wall memorial at Soldiers Corner with a re-dedication ceremony on the 8th December. The memorial is the is the last resting place of 238 men who died whilst in hospital in Bristol during and just the First World War.
Soldiers Corner was established by the Bristol Red Cross and the memorial does not have standard war grave headstones. The CWGC have replaced, repaired or cleaned the original marker stones, cleaned the brass on the screen wall and re-turfed the grass. The intention of this work was to return Soldiers Corner to the appearance of the memorial in 1920′
Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust and The Commonwealth War Graves Commission welcome all to this free remembrance and dedication event.
It will begin at 2pm and there will be a number of readings, 2 minutes silence and the Last Post will be played.
The event will be proceeded by a tour of the war graves on site. Tickets are available in advance.
