Talking about death and dying is difficult. We might talk about our fears of giving birth to our children, our concerns as parents, our frustrations with work and relationships, and the struggles we face in life. However rarely do we volunteer to talk about death and dying, especially our own.
Join Arnos Vale staff as they chat to end-of-life doula Anna and progressive funeral director Louise who will share the lessons they have learned about life, death, love and loss. They will discuss their experiences and they have suggestions of how we should address death differently, both on a personal level and a societal level.
Death and Dying professionals Anna and Louise have written a fascinating book called ‘We All Know How This Ends’, which is packed with practical information and professional expertise on everything that you might need to think about regarding death and dying.
During their chat they will share their thoughts on a range of areas from planning a funeral, looking into palliative care, dealing with grief or helping someone else grieve and discussing death with children. There will be a chance for the audience to ask our experts questions as well as listen to them chat about changes they suggest that are simple, but they could make a remarkable difference to all our experiences of death, grief and beyond.
About the speakers
Anna Lyons is an end-of-life doula, and Louise Winter is a progressive funeral director. Together they are the team behind “Life. Death. Whatever.” Their joint mission is to redesign the dialogue around death and dying, and as a result, shift people’s ideas of life, living, illness, funerals and grief. Ultimately, they believe this will provide you with a more empowered approach to whatever you’re going through. They believe that death is a normal part of life and dying is part of living. Acknowledging and accepting that one day we will die is fundamental to living a full life.
