Bristol’s Award Winning Arnos Vale has teamed up with Time & Tide Tale Tellers to bring ‘Grave Tales’ to the cemetery as part of a summer of events being hosted during the school holidays.

Families will hear a range of stories around the theme of the underworld, connected with monuments in the cemetery, plus a dash of atmospheric ghost tales. Blending myth, legend, history and pure invention this is a family friendly first for Arnos Vale.

Alongside Grave Tales, the new woodland Underwood Centre will be hosting a series of Forest School activities for children to get closer to nature, learning bushcraft skills such as den building and fire making. For younger kids there is also a range of stomping stories as classic books are brought to life around the 45 acre woods, as well as brand new ‘Mud Monday’ sessions for them to get their hands dirty.

For adults there are a series of walks including the ever popular After Hours Tours, revealing the darker side of Arnos Vale at dusk, in an atmospheric exploration of tragic tales, folk customs and funeral etiquette of Victorian society.

Public Engagement Manger Janine Marriott said: “Arnos Vale Cemetery is an amazing location to host events and this summer we’re pleased to be working with Tale Tellers on our new family friendly ‘Grave Tales’. We also have a range of other outdoor activities designed to inspire young people to get outdoors and muddy during the holiday.”

As well as the paid for events Arnos Vale also boasts a selection of free activities including the new discovery trail which takes visitors on a journey of discovery around the Victorian cemetery.
