Birth and Family
Thomas was born on 14th September 1814 the first son of Robert and Elizabeth Smart.

Thomas married Eliza Potter with whom he had four children.

Eliza died in 1867 age 51.
Thomas then married his second wife Matilda Smart in 1868 in Bedminster, Bristol.
Thomas passed away on 26th September 1882.
Grave
His tomb comprises a rare marble obelisk placed on a pedestal. The front has an oval relief with a portrait of a High Victorian professional, set within a garland surround; above is a wreath of 'immortelles' made of porcelain. Due to its unusual design it is Grade II listed.
