Friends of Arnos Vale Cemetery
Previously known as The Association for the Preservation of Arnos Vale Cemetery, we originally formed in 1987 to campaign to save the cemetery. Now, as Friends of Arnos Vale Cemetery, we continue to fundraise to support Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust with ongoing improvements to the cemetery.
For more than 30 years, the Friends have contributed over £165,000 to the restoration programme. Our volunteers continue to support the Trust on all types of landscaping work, as tour guides and in the gift shop and reception.
In June 2015 we were recognised with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service - the MBE for volunteers – for outstanding work in local communities.
More recently, we have funded the first two phases of the restoration of The Cloisters, supported the Trust with a major purchase of a new van, another chainsaw and a battery-operated strimmer.
Our Aims:
- To support Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust in promoting Arnos Vale Cemetery as a place of remembrance, recreation, heritage, wildlife and learning, which is sustainable, viable and valued by all its stakeholders
- To support the Trust through volunteer roles: to include grounds maintenance, visitor reception, shop, office administration and research, tour guiding, talks and event support plus other appropriate volunteering activities
- To carry out fundraising for specific Cemetery projects in agreement with the Trust
