Why is the grass long in Arnos Vale Cemetery?
July 31, 2018Blink and you’ll miss it – the Bristol & Bath Culture Flash Sale returns
August 29, 2018If you’re the outdoorsy type then what better way to start a new chapter in your life than with an outdoor wedding venue, look forward to sun kissed ceremonies, bouquets of peonies and a whole lot of love.
Set in 45 acres of stunning woodland, the idyllic Underwood Centre at Arnos Vale is Bristol’s only licensed woodland venue and this month we are going to share our top 5 tips for planning an outdoor wedding.
Consider your wedding date
May through to September is usually regarded as high or peak season with weddings in these months having a higher chance of dry and warm weather. May and September are considered as the driest months with August and July the warmest months. Unfortunately, a warm sunny day can never be guaranteed but don’t let that put you off, create a rain plan and incorporate umbrellas into your day. As a recent bride said ‘plan for the worst, hope for the best and prepare to be surprised.’
Wedding venues
It’s a must to see your venue first hand before you put any money down, however once you’ve booked visit again in the same month as your wedding date and preferably at the same time as your ceremony. This will give you a good idea of lighting and the colours of your surroundings meaning you can create a theme or plan of decorations that work with your chosen space- don’t forget to take your camera to refer back to!
Embrace your surroundings
Use scenery and natural landscapes to your decorating advantage and embrace the ‘less is more’ approach, this will save you money but also means you and your guests can truly appreciate your surroundings. Delicate lace bunting, posies of wildflowers or bunches of foliage will enhance your venue whilst still being mindful of your environment.
Dress accordingly
It’s important to feel comfortable, confident and drop dead gorgeous on your wedding day, but also to be realistic. If you are getting married in the woods, don’t choose a dress with a 6 foot train or a full ball gown -especially if you consider that most outdoor venues may have limited bathroom facilities. Leave your stilettos at home, colourful wellies, converse or box heels are the perfect solution.
Be prepared
Prepare for all weathers and rejoice in what Mother Nature delivers for your big day- who would’ve expected snow in March! Your venue should be able to provide a contingency plan for any unkind weather and blankets and umbrellas ensure that your guests stay dry and warm. It’s also important to emphasise the nature of your wedding venue to your guests when you send out invitations, some guests may have specific requests or need to consider access to your venue.
